GERMAN AND INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS  DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR APPLICATION TO HIGHER ACADEMIC SEMESTERS (MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMMES)

A number of different documents must be uploaded to the heiCO portal of Heidelberg University as part of the application to a higher academic semester in a consecutive Master’s degree programme.

All documents must be submitted prior to the established deadline. Only proofs of previous achievements in the Master's degree programme and certificates of transferable grades can be submitted subsequently.

DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED ONLINE BY ALL APPLICANTS

  • Certificate of the undergraduate degree programme
    • Certificates and transcripts of records from German universities may be submitted as simple copies.
Certificates and transcripts of records from non-German universities may be submitted as simple copies. If the original documents are not available in English or German, applicants must also provide a translation of a sworn translator in English or German. This also applies for applicants who are German citizens!
      • Transcripts of records from non-German universities must clearly indicate the grading system employed at that university, as this will be used to determine equivalence with the German grading system. The grading system must indicate both the minimum and maximum grades attainable.
  • Certificate of enrolment from the most-recently attended university.
  • Proof of previous achievements in the Master's degree programme
  • Students applying for a transfer or change of institution from a non-German university must also submit: a certificate of transferable grades from the relevant subject area
  • Any further documents and certificates mentioned in your heiCO account

NON-GERMAN AND STATELESS APPLICANTS MUST ALSO SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS:

  • For degree programmes taught in German: proof of knowledge of the German language (uncertified copy). In order to complete the German language test for the admission to universities (DSH) at Heidelberg University, students must supply written proof of completion of at least 1,000 - 1,200 hours of German language instruction at a recognised institution. This does not apply to applicants with a German university entrance qualification.
  • Uncertified copy of the applicant’s passport (page with name in Latin script). Applicants from EU/EEA member states may alternatively submit a copy of their personal identity card.
  • For applicants with certificates from Vietnam, the People's Republic of China and India: Original of the APS certificate from the relevant Academic Examination Body.

Please note: if applicants are admitted to the University, they must provide their university entrance qualification in officially certified copy including the corresponding translation into German or English language at the point of enrolment at the very latest. We strongly recommend that international applicants also upload this documentation as part of their application for admission to a Master’s degree programme. Proof of a university entrance qualification consists in the following documents:

  • Where applicable: certificate confirming successful completion of an assessment test taken in Germany, including an overview of the individual grades achieved.
  • Where applicable: certificates or diplomas proving successful completion of university admission examinations taken abroad. This must include a list of the individual grades achieved, and where available, the letter of admission from the non-German university. If original documents are not available in English or German, applicants must also provide an official translation into German or English.
