Application
The application procedure for the MA degree programme in "Cultural Heritage and the Protection of Cultural Property" is subject to the rules laid down by the University of Heidelberg for consecutive Master’s degree programmes with restricted admission.
The prerequisites for admission to the MA programme in "Cultural Heritage and Protection of Cultural Property" are as follows:
- a general university entrance qualification from a German institution, an appropriate subject-related university entrance qualification from a German institution, a university entrance qualification from a foreign institution, or an officially approved equivalent qualification.
- a good BA degree in humanities, cultural studies or social science, or an equivalent discipline, from a German or foreign university, obtained after a course of study lasting at least three years; or an officially approved equivalent degree. A good degree is a degree with a German grade of at least 2.3 (ECTS grade B).
- English language skills corresponding to level C1 in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (GER), as evidenced by:
- certificate obtained after passing a standardized and internationally recognized English test that is not older than two years, e.g. IELTS with an overall score of at least 7.0 and at least 6.5 in each subcategory; TOEFL iBT with a score of at least 90 and at least 22 in each subcategory; or Cambridge English Tests with a score of at least 185 on the Cambridge English Scale (C1/ Proficient User);
or
- a Bachelor‘s or Master’s degree obtained in an English-speaking country (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Ireland, Malta, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand); applicants whose mother tongue is English only need to provide evidence that they obtained their university entrance qualification in one of the aforementioned countries.

Applications deadlines |
The programme begins in the winter semester. Applications from international students must be received by June 15th. German students can register up to September. The university deadlines for matriculation must be observed. |

Registering for the first semester
German candidates and foreign candidates with a degree from a German university
From the summer semester 2023 onwards, applications will only be accepted online via the campus management system heiCO:
https://heico.uni-heidelberg.de
The application must be submitted entirely electronically via heiCO. Registered students of Heidelberg University can log in to heiCO with their university ID and submit an application there under the button "Meine Bewerbungen für ein Studium".
Applicants from other universities and foreign students have to register frist and create a personalised login account and then complete the online application.
After the academic qualifications and the relevant documents of the applicant groups have been uploaded, the admissions committees check the uploaded documents and make a subject-related assessment. The professional assessment is then entered into the system.
Candidates with a degree from a German university may register any time before the beginning of the winter semester.
