German and international applicants  Documents for application to a higher academic semester (Master of Education)

A number of documents must be submitted in the scope of your application for a higher academic semester in the Master of Education. 

All documents in support of an application must be uploaded as document uploads in the online application for the Master of Education. As the application process is conducted solely online, documents submitted by post or e-mail cannot be taken into consideration. Documents in support of an application can only be subsequently submitted during the open application dates. 

MANDATORY DOCUMENTS IN SUPPORT OF AN APPLICATION FOR THE ONLINE APPLICATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree certificate incl. the official transcript of records of the university 
  • A confirmation of your periods of study (Studienverlaufsbescheinigung)
  • Transcript of Records of a consecutive Master’s programme 
  • Transfer students and university changers from other EU countries: Certificate of credit from the relevant examination office at Heidelberg University. 
  • All foreign certificates of previous education (e.g., university degree certificate, transcript of records) must be submitted as a copy with the corresponding sworn translation in German or English. This also applies to applicants with German citizenship! 

SUBJECT-SPECIFIC COMPULSORY DOCUMENTS IN SUPPORT OF AN APPLICATION:

  • Depending on the degree programme component of the Master of Education, different additional documents may need to be uploaded by document upload in the online application (e.g., language certificate of one/several foreign language(s), personal statement). 
  • Please refer to the admission regulations of the respective degree programme component to learn which documents need to be enclosed with the application by upload in the online application. 
  • Applicants for the Master of Education degree programme in Gerontology, Health, and Care must in any case submit proof of three years of successfully completed training (geriatric nurse, health and medical nurse, health and paediatric nurse). 

INTERNATIONAL AND STATELESS APPLICANTS ADDITIONALLY MUST SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS

  • For degree programmes taught in German: Proof of knowledge of the German language (uncertified copy); written proof of at least 1,000 - 1,200 completed hours of German lessons at a recognised institution is a prerequisite for participation in the German language test for the admission to universities (DSH) at Heidelberg University (NOT applicable to applicants with a German university entrance qualification) 
  • Uncertified copy of passport (page with name in Latin transcription) or identity card (EU/EEA nationals only) 
  • Applicants with diplomas from Vietnam, the PR China, and India: Original of the APS certificate of the competent Academic Evaluation Centre 

Please note: Following admission, applicants must submit their university entrance qualification at the latest for their registration at Heidelberg University. We recommend that international applicants also submit these transcript documents when applying for the Master’s programme. Proof of university entrance qualification includes the following documents: 

  • Officially certified copy of the school-leaving certificate authorising the holder to take up higher education studies in the respective country of origin (e.g., Abitur certificate, High-School Diploma, Matura, etc.), including the corresponding lists of individual grades. 
  • If applicable: Copy of the diploma documenting the passed assessment test to determine the eligibility of foreign applicants for studies at institutions of higher education in Germany, if such a test was taken in Germany, including the corresponding overview of individual grades. 
  • If applicable: Officially certified copies or duplicates of the diplomas or transcripts of university entrance examinations passed abroad, including the corresponding transcript of grades and – if available – the letter of admission from the foreign university. An officially certified translation in German or English is also required (except for documents in German and English).
