International students as guests at Christmas
The Department of International Relations at Heidelberg University would like to give students from abroad an insight into German Christmas and New Year's Eve traditions. The foreign student spends part of the holidays in a host household and can thus get to know German culture. In addition to traditional families, single households, couples, single parents or flat-sharing communities from Heidelberg and the surrounding area can also be host households - from students to senior citizens. The only decisive factors are curiosity, openness to the world and the willingness to accept the guest as a temporary family member. The program is aimed at sociable foreign students who are enrolled at Heidelberg University and would like to experience German culture. The period of time can be determined individually. Regardless of whether it is just for a festive meal or for the entire holiday period - the family stay of a foreign guest is always an intercultural enrichment for everyone involved. The department arranges contact between the host household and the students. The guests bring their own pocket money. The host families offer the students accommodation, meals and participation in everyday family life, depending on individual arrangements.
