MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMMES
A Master’s degree programme is an additional academic course which is generally undertaken following the successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree programme. Other undergraduate courses however, can also prepare students to begin a Master’s-level programme. A Master’s degree programme generally consists in four academic semesters. In some cases, courses may run for a total of two or three semesters. Graduates of a Master’s degree programme will usually receive a Master of Science (M.Sc) or a Master of Arts (M.A).

Master’s degree programmes with access restrictions
All Master’s degree programmes at Heidelberg University are access-restricted. In each case, the restrictions are stipulated in the admission regulations for the relevant subject. Restrictions might require for example, that students have successfully completed an undergraduate degree programme and achieved an above-average grade.
Master’s degree programmes with access and admission restrictions
Alongside access restrictions, a number of Master’s degree programmes are also admission-restricted. This means that the number of places available in these subjects is limited. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of places available, only the best applicants will be admitted to the course.
Master of Education

Applications for the Master of Education for those wishing to teach in vocational schools with a specialisation in Gerontology, Health and Care are subject to specific requirements.
Becoming a teacher (Master’s phase)
