Tourism is the largest industry in the world and a key component in the mobilities paradigm. In this seminar, students will draw on a wide range of anthropological case studies in order to understand tourism as not only a global but globe-making activity. These studies will be linked to further theoretical discussions on (among others) authenticity, arts and heritage, music and festival culture, volunteer work, environmental activism, indigeneity and transculturality. For a brief introduction to the notion of tourism as a globe-making activity watch the video journal publication accessible via the link below: https://lt.org/publication/how-does-tourism-change-people-and-places |
